6th Annual Meeting in Antwerp, Belgium
On 24th – 27th September 2019 the 6th annual general meeting of ECIA was held in Antwerp, Belgium, where diamonds are forever. European cellulose insulation manufacturers together with their closest associates from Canada and the United States gathered together for the main event of the year. All the hot topics of the business was discussed during the days.
Like a diamond, the cellulose fiber insulation is, maybe not forever, but a long-lasting building product. In the future, due to life cycle assessments of the buildings the producers need to test their products against the test of time. In this sense the cellulose fiber insulation as a treated organic, wood-based material will hold its characteristics through the course of time. The common understanding of the meeting was that cellulose insulation will perform well throughout the lifespan of the building if the circumstances are kept correct. As an evidence there was found intact shredded newsprint from 1772 built Monticello, the official residence of Thomas Jefferson, the former president of the United States.
Today’s cellulose insulation is made from recycled paper products and treated with inorganic substances to maximize its superior characteristics. In Jefferson’s day choices about building materials were driven by the ready availability of raw materials and their byproducts. Back then it was all about the woods. Now again, In the modern world where we need to reduce the use of plastics and non-recyclable resources the wood and wood-based products are the modern-day diamonds of building materials, the assembly concluded.
The new Board of directors was elected for the next 2-year term. The new board consists Mr. Marcel Bailey of CWA, Mr. Mojmir Urbánek of CIUR, Mr. Pasi Typpö of Termex and Mr. Wolfgang Lackner of CPH.
The meeting was hosted by Mr. Jonas Eykens, Isoproc.
